Recommended Browser Settings for 2 Factor Authentication

When authenticating a device by entering in the 6 digit code that is provided, RealTracs stores a token within the browser in the form of a cookie.  This cookie authorizes the browser for 90 days to be used with RealTracs' website. Within this ninety day period of time, the user will no longer be asked for 2 Factor Authentication (having to enter in a second factor in addition to a password to verify who the user is, in the form of six digit code).  However, in order for the cookie to work, the user needs to have certain cookie settings within the browser.  Below are the recommended cookie settings for each browser.

Within Google Chrome on a Windows or Mac Computer

  1. Click the three dots in the top-right corner of Chrome.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the the Settings page, and click Advanced.
  4. Under the Privacy and Security section, choose Site Settings.
  5. Click Cookies.
  6. Make sure that "Allow sites to save and read cookie data" is toggled ON.
  7. Ensure that “Keep local data only until you quit your browser” is toggled OFF.
  8. Finally, always use a normal browser window and an not Incognito Window.

(In Chrome, Incognito Windows appear dark gray in color and say Incognito in the upper right corner.)

Within Firefox on a Windows or Mac Computer

  1. Click the three lines in the upper right corner of Firefox.
  2. Then if using a PC, click on Options.  If using a Mac, click on Preferences.
  3. Within Options or Preferences, on the left hand side, find and click on Privacy and Security.
  4. Under Content Blocking, make sure that Standard is selected.
  5. Scroll Down to Find Cookies and Site Data.
  6. Ensure that the box for "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" is not checked.
  7. Finally, always use a normal browser window and not a Private Window.

(In Firefox, Private Windows appear dark gray in color and have a mask in the upper right corner.)

Within Safari on a Mac

  1. Click on Safari in the upper left hand corner of the Mac.
  2. Choose Preferences
  3. Within the Preferences Menu, click on Privacy.
  4. Within the Privacy Menu, ensure that "Block All Cookies" is unchecked.
  5. Finally, always use a normal browser window and not a Private Window.

(In Safari, Private Windows have a dark gray address bar instead of light grey.)

Within Safari on an iPhone or iPad

  1. Tap the Settings icon from the home screen.
  2. Choose Safari within the Settings menu.
  3. Scroll down within the Safari settings, and ensure that "Block All Cookies" is toggled OFF.
  4. Finally, always use a normal browsing tab and not a Private Tab.

(In Mobile Safari, Private Browsing Tabs appear dark gray instead of white.)

Note: Safari on a Phone or Tablet only has a limited amount of hard drive space that iOS allows for cached website information to be stored within. When authenticating a device, RealTracs stores a token within the browser's cache in the form of a cookie. If the Phone or Tablet's cache already has a large amount of website data stored within it, the Phone or Tablet may not have enough room to remember the new data within the cache.  If this happens, a user will be asked to authenticate with a code each time when logging in using Safari on the Phone or Tablet. To fix this, please conduct the following:

Note:
  1. Tap the Settings icon from the home screen.
  2. Choose Safari within the Settings Menu.
  3. Scroll down within the Safari Settings, and tap the Clear History and Website Data option.
  4. Then tap Clear History and Data when prompted after the first tap.

Within Chrome on an Android Device

  1. Tap the three dots in the upper right hand corner of Chrome.
  2. Tap on Settings.
  3. Under Advanced, tap on Site Settings.
  4. Within the Site Settings menu, tap on Cookies.
  5. Make sure that the toggle switch for Cookies is toggled ON.
  6. Finally, always use a normal browsing tab and not an Incognito Tab.

(In Mobile Chrome, Incognito Tabs appear dark grey instead of white.)
